warning sign in September at the bar to Bar Island near Acadia National Park in Maine

At both ends of the bar is this warning sign. On large tide days (when the moon and sun are aligned) the difference between high and low tides is about 13 feet. But today is a small tide day (when the moon is 90 degrees off from the sun) and the tide difference is only about 6 feet. So, we are pushing our hike start time (just about 1 1/2 hours before low tide), and getting our feet a little wet.
