| Nearby is a restored section of the enlarged canal. Locals jeered the original canal being organized by then Governor DeWitt Clinton, calling it "Clinton's Ditch." But, after completion the canal was a huge success, enabling much-increased transportation from Albany (and the Atlantic Ocean) to Buffalo (and the Great Lakes of central America). |
