...sure enough, here is (perhaps) a Northern Dusky Salamander (Desmognathus fuscus). According to the Fish and Game Dept Salamanders of NH website, this species is distinguished by its small size, dark color and side salt-and-pepper flecks; but since it lacks the characteristic ridged tail, this guy may be a hybrid.
