winter hikers on the summit of North Twin Mountain in New Hampshire

The summit is an elfin forest of ice-encrusted trees. There is so much snow up here that we discover the summit trail junction sign at ankle level, half-buried. To get here we have to break trail for 6 miles, whack through the upper branches of conifers, and find our way without the aid of snow-buried trail blazes.
