Narrowleaf Hawkweed (Hieracium umbellatum) in August on Sugarloaf Mountain in western New Hampshire

Beside the woods road near hike start is Narrowleaf Hawkweed (Hieracium umbellatum). Identifying characteristics include:
- leaves that are narrow, have a few widely-spaced teeth, and get smaller as they ascend the stem;
- simultaneous tufted-hairy fruit that ripens to black.
