aquatic salamander in Goose Pond below Sugarloaf Mountain near Newfound Lake in New Hampshire

Near shore is an Eastern Salamander (Notophthalmus viridescens, also called Red-spotted Newt) in its mature aquatic stage. This guy is probably more familiar to NH hikers in its immature Red Eft stage. [See also its Nashua Fish and Game description.]
