hiker crossing the Hancock Branch of the Pemigewasset River in New Hampshire

Chuck H., David R. and Fred did a bushwhack to Scar Ridge, Middle Peak (3500-ft; White Mountains, NH) in August 2007. We go in from the north (off the Kancamagus Highway), where the first thing we have to do is cross the Hancock Branch of the Pemigewasset River. Fortunately water level is low, but David still pauses to pick his next step.
