I hiked Rattlesnake Mountain (1594-ft; near Plymouth, NH) in July 2004. I chanced iffy weather and lost -- hence this wet-weather view of Baker Valley. This mountain with its cliff walk would make a fine hike for kids fearless of heights.

The best part of the hike occurred at dusk. I saw my first black bear in NH -- 30 feet up a snag near trailside, chewing on rotten wood. I reached for my camera; but, seeing me, he did a fireman's-pole-slide and disappeared in an eye blink.
