Deerfield River at the base of Negus Mountain in northwestern Massachusetts

Also at trailhead is the Deerfield River, which seems quiet and inconspicuous now. But during the scheduled dam releases this becomes a Class III rapid and is a major tourist attraction for rafters and kayakers. This river is also loaded with trout, making it a sweet spot for flyfishing. Crossing the river here is Florida Bridge (named after the nearby town of Florida, MA).
