Hen of the Woods (Grifola frondosa)

In October 2008 I wandered around Nashua, NH, and found interesting things growing. On a lawn is Hen of the Woods (Grifola frondosa), a prized edible mushroom. This species is common in the Northeast U.S. and in the Far East (Japan and China). It grows on the ground primarily under oak trees and fruits September - November. It is also called Polyporus frondosa.
