male Common Earwig (Forficula auricularia) in July at Manchester, New Hampshire

Slithering around on a Day Lily flower petal in Manchester in July 2010 is a Common Earwig (Forficula auricularia). The nasty looking tail pincers indicate this is a male -- the female's are smaller and straighter. This bug is an omnivore, eating smaller bugs, plants and decaying stuff, so not a direct threat to people.
