Fluid Arches (Morrisonia latex)

Also here is Fluid Arches (Morrisonia latex, formerly Polia latex), crawling across my hiking shirt. Although this caterpillar has a variable color pattern, it is usually bark-camouflage, such as this specimen. A good identifying feature is the round brownish head (see photo inset) with black eye spots, black eyebrow lines, and dark mottling. It is also the only caterpillar of similar looks that occurs in NH in September.
