Purple Gerardia (Agalinis purpurea) in September at Mine Hill in southern New Hampshire

Here is Purple Gerardia (Agalinis purpurea); also called Purple False Foxglove and Gerardia purpurea. This is a weird plant! It is partially parasitic on other plants (via its roots) in addition to producing its own food (via photosynthesis). And although it is called "purple", it also comes in shades of pink and white. Identification clues include: slender leaves, short flower stem and pointy calyx at flower base.
