It is so dark in the woods understory that I had to use my camera's flash to capture this photo of Winged Euonymous (Euonymous alata). This is another garden species that has escaped and made a home for itself around Nashua. Note the corky wings on the stem which give this plant its common name. The flowers aren't much, but the orange-red berries and bright-red fall foliage are outstanding.
