Type of Camera and Use of Photos

Since August 2005 I have been using an Olympus Stylus 800 camera. This is a small, light, rugged, weatherproof, 8-Mpixel model ideal for backpacking. Before that I used a 6-Mpixel (and prior to that a 4-Mpixel) predecessor of this camera.

In good weather I will sometimes use an Olympus SP-550 camera. This is a larger camera with only 7 Mpixels and no weatherproofing. However, it has two redeeming features: a large zoom range (28-504 mm equivalent) and image stabilization.

Most photos on this website were created from large originals. All have been reduced in size and JPEG compressed (somewhat blurred) to minimize Internet download time.
