weird yucky growth on a White Oak sapling on Mount Kilburn in New Hampshire

Growing around the stem of a White Oak sapling are these weird yucky fur balls. Each is about one inch across and hard. These would appear to be Wool Sour Galls. The Wool Sour Wasp (Callirhytis seminator) mom injects a chemical that causes the oak to grow this habitat/food-source for her young. Wow, seems like biological warfare to me!
