I did a solo sunset hike up Mt. Israel (2630-ft; White Mountains, NH) in September 2002.

A powerful cold front combined with tropical storm Gustaf to generate exceptional wind and fast-changing weather. Squam Lake looked like a blender, new down-falls blocked the trail, and 50-mph gusts made summit photography a challenge.

A ray from the setting sun temporarily illuminates a low-flying cloud.
