caterpillar of the Hickory Tussock Moth (Lophocampa caryae)

Elise and Margaret find a couple of these cute little white-haired caterpillars along the trail, so I photograph one as it climbs my pant leg. It is a Hickory Tussock Moth (Lophocampa caryae), which despite its name will feast on just about any tree leaf and is common in our area.
