I did a solo bushwhack to Mt. Deception (3671-ft; White Mountains, NH) in July 2006.

I started into the woods off Old Cherry Mountain Road at Campsite 7, going straight to the pointy West Peak and then over the col to the higher East Peak. The route was 4 miles round trip in 5 hours through a normal mix of terrain (good and bad) and a lot of uphill (hey, it's a mountain!). I favored the north shoulder when the going got thick.

In the middle of nowhere, a shaft of sunlight shows off a patch of fruiting Haircup Moss.
