Round-leaved Yellow Violet (Viola rotundifolia)

Down low in the snow-free zone Round-leaved Yellow Violet (Viola rotundifolia) is flowering. Identification is by its small size (2-5 inches tall), growth in deep woods, and stemless habit (flowers and leaves on separate stalks) This wildflower is also called Early Yellow Violet. Sure is bizarre weather today: summer at the trailhead, spring near the brook, and winter up on top!
