Allison, Cathy and Fred visited Beaver Brook in April 2009 on a salamander hunt. Checking under rotten logs we find a Northern Redback Salamander (Plethodon cinereus). According to the Fish and Game Dept Salamanders of NH website, this species is distinguished by its small size, dark color and orange back stripe. (Although some individuals lack orange, according to Wikipedia.)
