16x linear enlargement: this is a 16-times enlargement of the front zebra's head. If the entire frame were enlarged by this amount, it would be a 12x8-foot wall mural. At this enlargement you can clearly see film grain and begin to see individual pixels. If the scanner resolution were reduced from 21 Mpixels to around 7 Mpixels, I think the relative annoyance of grain and pixels would be about equal. This indicates that a 7-Mpixel digital camera could produce image quality similar to a 35-mm camera using 400-speed film.
