noxious frog

This large porcelain container in the form of a toad is from 17th century China and resides at the
Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts. The plaque explains that ancient China recognized
"Five Noxious Creatures": toad, centipede, snake, scorpion and gecko; hence a frog sculpture like this is rare.
